Happy National Puppy Day!

Happy Friday and Happy National Puppy Day to all my fellow dog lovers and dog parents! It's time to celebrate all breeds, pure and mixed as we honor family dogs and dogs that work selflessly to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.

It's been 6 years since my Hub and I adopted this furry child of ours from a local shelter and we couldn't be any happier! He has truly filled our lives and home with happiness and pretty much completes our happy little family. Growing up as a child, I was never raised with any pets until I met my Husband who is a major dog lover and grew up with several dogs of his own. In high school when we first began dating, I suffered a brief depression and my Husband who was my boyfriend at the time took me to a nearby animal shelter. At the time, I wasn't completely sure why he took me there, until I became fixated on a chow mix puppy that for once, put a smile on my face. Then I understood what it was that my Husband was trying to do.

It was then that my Husband felt that having a dog would help me get through the toughest times by bringing me joy while also teaching me how to love unconditionally. He ended up adopting that cute chow mix that I had named Nala. She was a lovely puppy that grew to be a wonderful family dog that I will always forever cherish and miss. My parents eventually took care of her while I was in college and Nala had definitely made an impact on their lives as well.

Fast forward to Christmas 2012. My Hub and I moved into our first home together. It was certainly quiet for the first few weeks until my he and I felt it was time to grow a family. We made our way to the local Humane Society and I kid you not, we went to the first kennel and my Hub immediately fell in love with this little furry boy that barked at him once and then sat his furry behind down after my Hub sternly told him to sit. It was actually kind of funny to see if you were there :) After spending some time with him at the shelter we knew he was the one for us. We eventually adopted him the day after Christmas and named him Sam short for Samson.

Sam has truly been a wonderful addition to our family. He keeps us on our toes while we also do our best to give him the best life a dog deserves. My life has truly changed since my first furry child over a decade ago. I'd say I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for my Hub opening my mind up to caring for animals. Back then, I didn't think I'd have it in me to be able to care for a dog, but I was wrong. So wrong.

As the years go by, we are truly thankful for this little guy and only want to give him the best of the best. If you spoil yourself, you might as well spoil your loved ones as well and that's this little guy right here ;)

Whatever you do today, make sure to celebrate National Puppy Day and spoil your furry ones with lots of love!
