A Celebration of Life for A Dear Friend

Just last week, I joined one of my closest friends, Einna to celebrate her birthday with family and friends.  It was definitely a joyous occasion without any dull moments.  It was so nice reuniting with old friends and certainly a pleasure meeting new faces...

Now, Einna and I go way back... As far back as 1997/'98 when we were freshmans in high school. We both had our own circle of friends growing up, but we still maintained a friendship with each other that later blossomed into something much like a sisterhood when we reached college.  Just like any relationship, you go through ups and downs in which we had our share. College was a trying time for our friendship with the demise of her former flame which I will keep nameless.  For 6-7 years, we had a strained friendship that was almost non-existent if I didn't think about it, but that time of my life was difficult. It was hard to NOT think about it. To not have one of my best friends around anymore was like dealing with a death in the family.

Fast forward to 2008 when my husband started his career in the education field with the university he is currently working for.  One day, he comes home and says "sweetie, guess who works with me?".  Of course I had no clue and wanted him to just tell me, but he wanted me to keep guessing (which I suppose was a fun game at the time, lol).  After multiple guesses, he gave me a hint that easily gave it away.  I guessed correct with a look of complete shock.  See, back when our friendship was at a trying time, I told myself "if our friendship is meant to be, we'll reunite and it'll be like we never parted.".  Remembering that thought gave me chills as my husband expressed his concern for our friendship.  He made it clear that he wanted us to make up and reconnect.  Although I was hesitant, I eventually realized that this was God's plan - that somewhere down the road, we would reunite.  It was a trip to think out of all places, my husband works with Einna! Crazy!  My husband, the sweetest man ever devised our meet accordingly.  He had me come in to visit him during his lunch so that way he would bring me over to Einna's desk to say hello.  Can you imagine how nervous I was as it had been years since the last time we had seen or spoken to each other?!!?

When Einna and I reunited, I'll be honest.  It was a little awkward at first, but that awkwardness eventually fizzled and not too long after, Einna and I began texting and emailing each other like nothing ever happened. We made it an effort to meet for lunch after reuniting to reflect on our past and since then, our friendship has grown and matured.  Going back to last week (07/29/2014), it was good times and good vibes all around celebrating another year of life for Einna.  I can honestly say, she's my "Ride or Die" friend that supports and is always there for you in good and bad.  We both survived a strained relationship with each other in the past and I feel that our friendship is now stronger than ever!  We may not always see or talk to each other daily, but when we do, we pick up from where we last left off.

As we celebrated another year of life for Einna, I can't tell you enough just how proud I am of her and her accomplishments.  She has a lot to celebrate in life and I'm just happy she's happy :)
